A duct testing technician seals all termination vents [supply outlets] and connects a fan to the return air inlet. By pressurizing the duct system [including the attached equipment] the technician can measure the air loss [leaks.] If the system exceeds the state mandate in loss, the system will not pass. After the duct system has been given a through going over by the installing contractor, a second duct test will be needed, and subsequent tests until the duct system meets or surpasses the state mandate.
What is involved in duct testing?
Yes. Harmless theatrical fog can be introduced during the initial duct test and visually leaks can be found. Can duct testing be expensive? Not at all. Provided the installing contractor did his job, and the system meets the mandated requirements most installations cost less than $300. [Some cities have additional local costs, which can raise the costs.
Is there an easy way to locate all of the duct leaks?
